Coffee with Randy Wickstrom

Today, CR Supply Chain Consulting Managing Director Mark Gavoor met with Randy Wickstrom of Purple Durple Organizers.  Randy is a professional organizer.  We loved one of the taglines on his website:

Conquer Clutter - Save Time - Reduce Stress - Accomplish More

Who wouldn’t want to sign up for that?

In the discussions, Mark and Randy talked about a variety of elements that are central to professional organizing and process improvement.  Randy had mentioned that “All organization is about planning and preparedness.”  We believe the very same here at CR Supply Chain Consulting.  Supply Chain Management is all about planning and preparedness with the goal of having business processes that operate flawlessly.  This is true for Sales and Operations Planning, taking physical inventories, customer service, and any business process of supply chain management we can think of.

The results of a business process are due to the design of the business process.  This is dependant on good planning and preparedness to operate or execute the business process.  The result in either case?  Efficiency and effectiveness.  Saving time and accomplishing more.  There is no better stress reducer in our opinion.

Excellent warehousing design and operation is exactly what Randy does albeit on a more massive scale.  In a warehouse, clutter slows down the operation and increase stress in the supply chain.  Clutter and disorganization in warehouses are the enemy of efficiency and effectiveness.

Mark and Randy discussed that good results come from investing more time in planning which results in both less errors and less firefighting.  This is a good lesson that is not easily learned in a world where the day to day pace seems to be accelerating.  Too much planning can result in what is commonly known as “analysis paralysis” and poor results.  Not enough planning generates much more action but not necessarily any better results and hence the label “Ready... Fire... Aim!”  Funny, even though both strategies yield the same generally poor results, industry rewards the bias for action.

Randy's focus is on households and home offices.   He loves his work and is very good at it.

If you have a cluttered Supply Chain, call us, we can help.

If you have a cluttered home... call Randy, he is an expert.

Randy would have made a very good supply chain lean six sigma black belt.
